Iron Man:

Just got in from seeing Iron Man. My initial non-spoilery comments:

1. Wow, did this movie make me dizzy. I think it was all of the various things flying around and spinning on screen.

2. What is it with women running around in tottering high heels in action flicks? Can we, for once, please, please, please have an action movie where the girl is running around in flats? Sneakers, even? I spent entirely too much time wondering precisely how Gwyneth Paltrow was balancing on those shoes. (And she does so very nicely, mind you; I just kept thinking that under the circumstances she would have invested in a nice pair of comfortable, elegant flats.)

3. Stick around for the end of the credits. I'm trying to figure out what precisely the movie studios gain from tacking on important scenes like this at the end of the credits -- it was one thing when these were just humorous little add-ons, like the post-credits bit in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I suppose the idea is to reward dire fans.

4. Good flick.

Spoilery comments later.

I am still kicking myself for leaving early when my gut told me to stay

Oh, dude. You should have stuck around.

The post-credit bit is spoiled all over Wikipedia, if you want to go look.

it wasn't really spoiled. I knew the scene existed, but I thought it had been cut or saved for the spin-off. Needless to say, reading my RSS feeds in the morning made me regret not listening to my gut.

They might rerun the scene at the beginning of the sequel. After all, it is the setup for the sequel, I say, trying to stay unspoilery here.

Frankly, although I liked the end of the movie, I could easily have seen twitching things just a bit to leave that post credits scene in the end of the film.

I'm going to see this tomorrow with a friend of mine. Thanks for the tip about the end credits.

I'm not entirely sure it will have the same impact for you, but our audience was clapping.

MY GOD that was exactly my reaction. I mean, #2. I didn't get dizzy but I was screaming "lose the stripper shoes" during the whole last 3rd of the movie. Painful! And so unnecessary! WTF! She might as well have been wearing kangaroo stilts, it was so freakish.

re: #3 -- That's *exactly* what it is....only fans would really "get" the significance of the scene anyway...

And agreed, the movie was excellent.

I dunno -- I'm not really a major Iron Man the comics fan, but I thought that last scene was needed to set up the sequel.

Oh, yes, of course it serves that purpose, but they could have done that a bunch of different ways. Only fans will understand the significance of who is in that scene, what the dialog implies about the sequel, and what the casting choice means. (It's really hard to reply to this without spoilers, actually....)

See, the thing is, I missed the entire reference to War Machine, and the ring the guy that I assume will later be the Mandarin was twisting around (that is, saw the ring, missed the significance) and probably missed a lot of other things because I haven't read the comics much....

....but I got the coolness of the trailer, even without....

....wow, you're right that it's difficult to say stuff without being spoilery here.

Oh, and some of our post credits audience seemed to be cheering that casting choice more than the character or the scene.

I think she might have been safer in bare feet, even with all the shattered glass flying around. After all, the Power Of Being Beautiful Gwyneth Paltrow saved her from any damage to her face, arms and hands from the flying glass, so it's just possible that the same power would have saved her feet.
